All Quiet on the Western Front (1979)

Image
Rating: 7.8/10 At the start of World War I, Paul Baumer (Richard Thomas) is a young German patriot, eager to fight. Indoctrinated with propaganda at school, he and his friends eagerly sign up for the army soon after graduation. But when the horrors of war soon become too much to bear, and as his friends die or become gravely wounded, Paul questions the sanity of fighting over a few hundreds yards of war-torn countryside. The film is based on the classic novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. H ome  |  Movies  |  Documentaries  |  More Don't Forget To Share!

Scum (1979)

Image
Rating: 8.3/10 Raw, violent and shocking, Scum is a compelling story set in a contemporary Borstal. It tells of life in an institution run by violence and brutality rather than reason, where the boy who can fight his way to the top of the heap and reign as ‘Daddy’ will gain the respect of the inmates and sadistic ‘screws’ alike. One of the most controversial films ever made in the UK, and one which caused a furore when it was first screened on TV, ‘Scum’ stars Ray Winstone as Carlin, the one man prepared to struggle against all odds to be top dog in a system that is intent on breaking him.
